Common Plumbing Issues and How to Protect Your Plumbing System

If you own or rent a home chances are you WILL experience plumbing issues. Below is a list of common plumbing issues, along with tips that will save you both money and energy!

  • Do you use your washing machine often? If so, be sure to check the washing machine hose for leaks, cracks, and bulges. The hose should be replaced every three years.
  • DO NOT put banana peels, cornhusks, celery or other fibrous foods in the garbage disposal. It will just clog the system, and cause you major a headache!
  • Since the weather is cooling down you will want to disconnect your outside water hoses. When the hoses are connected during the cold months, they can freeze, and then expand, which can cause faucets and other pipes that connect inside your home to crack.
  • Towards mid to late fall be sure to clean leaves away from the gutters and downspouts on your home. Once winter arrives you don’t want the debris to freeze together because then excess water won’t be able to drain as easily.
